The vision of The Global Peace Centre is to contribute towards the creation of a Planetary Peace Culture looking to life and common humanism as the core values for a sustainable society.
During the last few decades, a radical change has occurred in humanity’s awareness of itself. In simple terms, we have, over the millennia, translated ourselves from “oneness to aloneness”. The truth is that all life on the planet is connected. Our initiative attempts to understand what we have become and illuminates our future potential.
Humankind has reached a state of development in which old modes of thinking and behaving threaten to destroy our planet.
Those of us who are dedicated to the preservation of life must play a prominent part in this revolution, which calls for a substantial change in our manner of thinking. On social, environmental and health fronts we are confronting a critical transition. We are facing the results of an epistemology which focuses on material and rational values, human supremacy and competition for domination. Will this transition be into chaos and destruction or will it be into the new paradigm based on spiritual, ecological connectedness and cooperation.
The Global Peace Centre is based on a paradigm similar to that of wholistic health. The planet is a living entity because it has on it a meshwork of life that maintains itself on a reciprocal basis. This is similar to the Gaia Hypothesis of James Lovelock. Conference Earth takes into account the latest advances in science and thought. It is looking at the latest advances in quantum physics, in consciousness, in psycho technologies and in the power of the mind to heal.
The key to change and economic success is not concentration on economic growth per se – we live on a finite planet which is undergoing the destruction of its living and non-living resources. We feel the key to transformation is a greater emphasis on education and health and the enhancement of inner wealth – rather than the acquisition of more and more material wealth at the expense of quality of life for all humanity. We feel that ’healing and relationships’ are the keys to the problems not only of Australia but of the world.
Our emphasis is innovation, viewing entrenched problems from a new perspective and deriving practical answers rather than just talking.
Background
During the last few decades, a radical change has occurred in humanity’s awareness of itself. In simple terms we have over the millennia, translated ourselves from oneness to aloneness. The truth is that al life on the planet is connected. This newly acquired state of aloneness and alienation causes considerable discomfort. The Global Peace Centre aims to understand what we have become and to enable us to crystallize our future potential.
The wide genetic diversity of species of flora and fauna are being destroyed rapidly. Similarly, the indigenous peoples of the world are under threat and we stand to lose the ancient wisdom of their cultures. The repositories of knowledge and experience of deeply held spiritual traditions can give us significant insights into solving a stricken biosphere and a deeper understanding of who we are and our place in the history of humanity and the universe.
The Global Peace Centre expresses a new paradigm, a new spirituality encompassing a consciousness of oneness in which all life maintains itself at the expense of everything else. In other words we are all connected -not separate. The big turning point is an integration of spirituality with ecology and technology. We need to see ourselves as inextricably connected – mind, body, spirit, society, environment in which we take a holistic approach.
The Global Peace Centre sees the health of an individual in society as tied up and inextricably related to human rights, human justice, lifestyle change, reduction of stress and the fundamental conditions for resources and health including peace, shelter, education, food, income, a stable eco-system, sustainable resources, social justice and equity.
THE MEASURES AIMED AT PREVENTING ECOLOGICAL CATASTROPHE AND TRANSITION TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, WHETHER IT BE TECHNOLOGICAL, ECONOMIC AND OR ECOLOGICAL, WILL BE DOOMED TO FAILURE UNLESS WE FREE OURSELVES FROM THE OLD SCIENTIFIC, INTELLECTUAL PARADIGM.
“All that man has here in multiplicity is intrinsically One. Here all blades of grass, wood and stone, all things are One. This is the deepest depth. And thereby am I completely captivated”. Meister Eckhart (1260-1327)
BASIS FOR ACTION
We have to re-evaluate ourselves as the prime cause of the problems we are facing, and rediscover the profound value inherent in every single human being. This is something that the United Nations conferences, as yet, have not really addressed. An open dialogue is the key to our success because it addresses differences, difficulties and barriers, and creates co-operation
The suggested process involves:
- the creation of a planetary peace and ecological culture, i.e. a sustainable civilization
- evolution of consumption and macro economy as a result of changes in consciousness, value system , need structure, education reform and human development
- human development as a prerequisite to the development of true civilization
- an understanding of the power of the human potential, including the power of the mind to
- devise appropriate technologies
- the communication technology and the media.
- the integration of scientific disciplines and scientific knowledge with consciousness
- the use of innovative forms of education which recapture the essence and heart of
- education
- economic empowerment of the developing world by the rich countries by mobilising
- human development
The U.N.’s failure is that it does not represent the populations of the world but instead represents national entities alone and then grants to the biggest powers a veto right (which means that the superpowers can control the UN through the undemocratic mechanism of the Security Council). Only a more visionary UN will actually work–not one based on powers using that body to advance self-interest of nations, but one based on a shared commitment to protect the planet and its peoples and to enhance their opportunities to actualize their human capacities.
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.” – Albert Einstein
THE NEW PARADIGM INTEGRATING SPIRITUALITY AND SCIENCE
EINSTEIN, 50 YEARS AGO, SAID ‘IF HUMANITY IS TO SURVIVE, THERE HAS TO BE A SUBSTANTIALLY NEW MANNER OF THINKING.’ In this respect, the new frontier is the new paradigm that encompasses a consciousness of oneness where all of life on Earth is connected and not separate.
Our civilization is changing rapidly. As a result, we are entering the so called post-industrial or the information society.
The computer information and technological revolution now occurring is being accompanied by new ways that actualise the global mind and vastly enhance the creative potential and access to freedom of information and expression for all humanity.
The new paradigm which integrates consciousness with science will become the basis for new education systems, new information policies, and a means to building relationships between people, nations, social groups etc.
Now is the time that millions of people need to awaken to their sense of truth, freedom, cooperation and connectedness, with all of life. A bloodless revolution is occurring now, as the heart of this unfolding of humanity comparable to the unfolding of a giant Lotus flower. In unity, and away from large business corporations, power, and hungry governments, the individual human being as an expression of connected humanity is arising through individual awakening and a sense of brotherhood with all other people - Dr Michael Ellis
THE ABOLITION OF WAR
The time has come for the world community to recognize that war, rather than an instrument for the elimination of terrorists and aggressors, is a crime against humanity. It is itself an act of aggression that threatens human life, and the environment on which human life vitally depends. (the Club of Budapest)
Warfare must be replaced by dialogue leading to mutual understanding as a basis of multilateral cooperation in regard to relations among nations in the political as well as in the economic and the ecological spheres.
The vision which is the old paradigm is extremely narrow and is based on a monopolar order seeking Global Hegemony. In the process we see a World premised on the consumer motive brainwashed by media circuses so that the ordinary citizen can fall easily into a sea of cultivated delusion. The aim of The Global Peace Centre is to promote a dialogue on peace and love to impact human consciousness on a deep and profound level.
“What the inventive genius of mankind has bestowed upon us in the last hundred years could have made human life care free and happy if the development of the organizing power of man had been able to keep step with his technical advances.” - Albert Einstein 1932
A NEW INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN ERA
What is needed is a new international humanitarian era based on the common ground of humanity – looking to life and common humanism as the core value for a sustainable society. This means not just human life. It means the whole spectrum of life that creates the biosphere.
People need food, work, education and satisfaction of desires for themselves and their children. A sustainable society will look at new ways of producing sustainable energy and sustainable agriculture. A new global era implies the imbuing of education literacy and life affirming values in every global citizen.
It is the consciousness of the ordinary global citizen which can create an alternative plan and a New World Peace Era for the planet.
A Planetary Culture implies science, technology, healing relationships, economics, government and education seen from the broadest perspective – not nation based, but global and holistically based, stimulating new ways of thinking to enhance our connectedness, and goes beyond isms and ideologies to recognising the sacredness of all life. It implies the creation of new art, literature and music, and the development of a life philosophy that is based on the universal principles of peace goodwill and love inherent in human activity. The biosphere is a unique culture which is completely different from the specific characteristics of nations as it is a complex matrix of life where everything supports itself at the expense of everything else.
PROPOSALS
The essence of evolution of humanity is the growth in individual human wisdom, the enfolding of all global knowledge, the enhancement of human creativity and expresses the priceless jewel of the human heart, and the creativity which transcends all national barriers.
We currently have a planet which is rampant in its predisposition to materialism and profit at the expense of life. It negates even the value of human life, and in this mounting whirlpool engenders economic, technological, social, moral and ecological crisis. The core crisis is a spiritual one. We must get back to the essence of who we are and understand the infinite potential within humanity.
We ask the UN, including especially UNEP, UNESCO and UNCSD and the governments of the world, to support ideas and proposals on developing and putting into practice, a new informational and educational policy based on the new scientific and intellectual paradigm, to develop and establish new educational programs for different national, social and age groups. Such programs would be established under the aegis of the UN (directly or under UNEP & UNESCO) institutions, governments and industrial organisations. These proposals concern education, information policy and science based on the new way of thinking that we may prevent the potential global crisis.
In particular we wish to highlight the following proposals
- To develop and put into practice new educational programs for different national, social and age groups based on the new scientific and intellectual paradigm. Such an educational program would integrate healing issues with a holistic educational approach emphasising the importance of lifestyle, nutrition, relaxation, nutritional supplementation, meditation and exercise for the prevention of the major scourges of illness and deprivation in our global community. This activity would be facilitated by outstanding world leaders and key humanist individuals.
- To elaborate and enhance the conception of eco-settlements understanding the profound connection between dwellings and the environment in which they exist and to provide support to eco-settlements from international, governmental and non governmental entities.
- To call all the World’s scientists to take part in developing the intellectual basis for forming a sustainable civilisation, and for this purpose:
- To establish international and domestic scientific co-operation.
- To shift the focus of scientific research to sustainable related issues including the creation of renewable energy, the substitution of non-renewable natural resources by renewable ones, the development of environmentally clean technologies and transport, the utilization of the consumer wastes, as well as other fundamental and applied technologies and disciplines.
- To call all people of goodwill as well as organisations sharing the principles of the new intellectual paradigm to promote the importance of ethics, spiritual values and consciousness as the prerequisites of a sustainable civilisation:
- To ask business and community groups to integrate the market to include ecologically sound production, primarily in food and medicine, placing emphasis on organic foods, sustainable agricultural practices and cellular and herbal medicines.
- To call on the mass media as purveyors of the information which currently shape peoples consciousness, models of reality and dominant value systems through the imperative of economic agendas to bring to humanity a clear integrative unbiased network of information which covers the positive and uplifting aspects of human experience.
- To support the development of centres of learning to bring out the finest qualities of humanness global vision and leadership for the youth of the future
- To appeal to the young people of the world to seek unity within diversity, cohesion where there is fragmentation and resolution where there is conflict.
- To ask governments to support our concerns and ideas and to establish appropriate state institutes, to initiate programmes aimed at focusing on scientific activities as a matter of urgency on:
- New ways of thinking about our place on Earth and the ways in which we relate to the functioning of natural systems if we are to find a better way to live in harmony with nature.
- Formulating new ways in industry and agriculture, making a possible a sustainable world.
- Reforming educational systems based on the new paradigm.
“In the final analysis, then, we are faced with a social and spiritual crisis that transcends any technological or scientific challenge. The technological solutions exit — but do we possess the will, wisdom and courage to apply them for the common good? The more one contemplates this matter the more it is obvious that we have one possible future: Peace. Peace on Earth and peace in space — a universal Peace, wisely enforced; for every other path leads to ruin This then is the greatest challenge of the current era. Can our spiritual and social resources rise to this challenge? Nothing less than the destiny of the human race hangs in the balance.” – Dr Steven Greer
